Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs)
Canada has seen significant contributions from our Internationally Educated Health Care Professionals (IEHPs). According to Statistics Canada, in 2021, a notable 259,695 IEHPs, aged between 18 and 64, chose to make Canada their home, and they now represent 13% of all Canadians in this age bracket with post-secondary education in health-related fields.
Nearly half of these dedicated individuals, totalling 116,310, reside in Ontario, while provinces like British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec follow closely with impressive numbers.
Almost 50% of IEHPs were between the ages of 25 and 34 when they immigrated to Canada. This influx of young talent is promising for our nation's health-care future. On top of that, the sector has a robust female representation, with women constituting 71.2% of the IEHPs. Over a third of IEHPs proudly hold a bachelor's degree, with approximately 20% pursuing specialized fields such as medicine, dentistry, or optometry.
Furthermore, about a quarter of these professionals have achieved a post-secondary credential below a bachelor's degree, showcasing a broad range of qualifications. In terms of their expertise, many IEHPs come from nursing backgrounds, making up about one-third of the total, followed by those trained as physicians, making up 15%, and professionals in pharmacy and dentistry, claiming 8% each.
Canada's health sector is undoubtedly more robust and diverse, thanks to the dedicated efforts of IEHPs. Alpha Consultants are immensely proud to support its endeavours in shaping Canada's healthcare future. Stay connected with Alpha Conultants for more insights and updates!
